As a London PR agency, we’re proud of our location here in the capital. Based it Fulham, we’re just minutes from the Thames and a host of lovely riverside bars and restaurants. It’s also great place to do business – central London can be reached by a short hop on the Tube and the vast transport links mean it’s easy to travel elsewhere in the UK.
It’s clear we’re not the only ones who find London such a special place to be. ONS released figures yesterday show that the number of foreign tourists visiting the capital has surged by 20 per cent last summer to a new record — making it the world’s most popular destination. Achieving a wide spread of press coverage across regional media, the stats reveal almost 4.9million people visited the city between July and September 2013. Combine this with visitor spend (£3.372billion) and London’s outlook is pretty rosy.
In another media coup, London & Partners has capitalised on the capital’s popularity with the launch of The London Story – a series of films by celebrities and residents proclaiming their affection for the city. Perfectly timed to coincide with the ONS stats, the videos cover all aspects of London – its attractions, transport, restaurants, museums and hidden gems – all designed to boost those visitor numbers even further. The timing of this launch also works well as January is well known as one of the busiest months of the year for booking breaks away. Many holiday makers are now looking ahead to the Easter and even summer holidays, and London needs to ensure it’s front of mind. In The London Story, the power of celebrity endorsement alongside interesting resident testimonials make for compelling viewing. It’s certainly worth keeping an eye on visitor numbers to see if these films translates into footfall.
