I have to confess that I embarked on my month’s internship at Clareville with some trepidation after my first experience of PR interning was a somewhat interesting experience. I had visions of sitting in a corner with no desk, being largely ignored feeling close to tears. Fortunately I could not have been more wrong, and my month at Clareville has been both fun and highly beneficial, and if I am honest, I will be sad to leave. So what have I learned during my month here? I feel they are best expressed in 10 points:
- The Antibac pen is going to be THE product of 2012. Yes really it is, and I will be able to tell everyone that I helped make it a ‘must have’ for offices!
- Writing media sell-ins to journalists is fun. I’ve got to be honest I am going to really miss my Antibac promotional speech!
- When calling journalists and you ask ‘did you receive my email’, and they reply ‘ooh no I don’t think so’, what they mean is ‘yes I did and chose to ignore it’.
- BabyBjorn products are in such high demand that people are prepared to make up any story to nab a free sample.
- David Cameron uses his BabyBjorn carrier far more than SamCam does
- I now know, thanks to Sara’s wise guidance, that the plural of baby is babies and NOT babys!
- When it comes to lunch … there are more types of hummus that I ever thought possible, some are good, some are not (avoid the peri peri flavour.)
- I make tea far too strong
- Some PR agencies don’t even pay their interns expenses. Cheeky!
- It is very important, when applying to work at PR agencies, to be careful to choose one that has a relaxed and enjoyable working environment, my next agency will have a lot to live up to!
